About the role
NHS Lothian is recruiting two 2‑year fixed‑term locum Consultant Gastroenterologists to work at the Western General Hospital and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The role combines inpatient and outpatient duties, including endoscopy lists and clinics, and contributes to out‑of‑hours GI emergency cover.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver outpatient clinic sessions and manage inpatient gastroenterology wards.
- Perform up to four endoscopy lists per week, covering both upper and lower GI procedures.
- Provide out‑of‑hours GI emergency cover across NHS Lothian sites.
- Undertake occasional sessional commitments at other Lothian hospitals.
Required profile
- Fully trained and competent in both upper and lower GI endoscopy.
- Interest in endoscopy is advantageous.
- Willingness to work across multiple NHS Lothian locations on a full‑time (40 hours/week) basis.
