Locum Planning Lawyer – Maternity Leave Cover

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Planning Lawyer to provide maternity‑leave cover for a local authority in Sussex. The position starts in October 2026 and runs for approximately ten months, offering a mix of office‑based and remote work.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload including Section 106 agreements, highways agreements and planning enforcement matters.
  • Attend planning committee meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with a friendly team of planning lawyers across different experience levels.

Required profile

  • Minimum of five years post‑qualification experience in planning law.
  • Relevant experience within a local authority, preferably a county council.
  • Proven ability to attend and contribute to planning committee proceedings.

Required skills

  • Planning law expertise.
  • Knowledge of Section 106 and highways agreements.

What we offer

  • Full‑time, fixed‑term contract (10 months).
  • Hybrid working – at least one day per fortnight in the office, the remainder remote.
  • Flexible pay rate.
