Locum Safeguarding Social Worker – £39 per hour

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join the Safeguarding Team at Oldham Council on a locum basis. This temporary contract offers a competitive hourly rate and the chance to make a real difference for children and families facing complex protection challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a complex caseload of children and families subject to Child Protection plans, from initial conference through to case closure or court proceedings.
• Conduct thorough risk assessments using evidence‑based models such as Signs of Safety.
• Develop, implement and review multi‑agency Child Protection Plans and ensure effective family engagement.
• Prepare detailed court statements and provide expert evidence when required.
• Chair core group meetings and coordinate service delivery across partner agencies.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker (QSW) registered with Social Work England.
• Recent, proven experience in a statutory Safeguarding or Long‑Term Child Protection team.
• Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and local safeguarding procedures.
• Resilience, analytical ability and capacity to work under pressure while maintaining professional boundaries.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Signs of Safety framework.
