Looked‑After Children Social Worker (Hybrid)

About the role

We are recruiting an experienced Looked‑After Children (LAC) Social Worker to join Luton Council’s Children’s Services on a hybrid basis. The role involves managing a caseload of children in care, delivering high‑quality assessments and supporting positive outcomes for young people.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of Looked‑After Children, placing their needs, wishes and feelings at the centre of planning.
• Produce assessments, care plans, reviews and statutory visits in line with legislation and local authority procedures.
• Collaborate with children, families, carers and professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
• Safeguard children, identifying and managing risks or concerns promptly.
• Prepare and contribute to Looked‑After Children Reviews, court proceedings and other relevant meetings.
• Maintain accurate case records and meet all statutory deadlines.
• Work closely with foster carers, education, health and partner agencies to ensure appropriate support.
• Promote permanence and progress placement plans without unnecessary delay.

Required profile

• Registration with Social Work England.
• Relevant social work qualification.
• Previous experience working with Looked‑After Children in a local authority setting.
• Strong knowledge of legislation, safeguarding procedures and statutory practice.
• Ability to manage a complex caseload and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication, assessment and report‑writing skills.
• Commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.
