M&A Tax Assistant Manager

About the role
An exciting opportunity for a tax professional to move into Transaction Tax, working on mergers and acquisitions, private‑equity‑backed transactions and large corporate deals. You will join a high‑performing team within a top‑10 accountancy firm, supporting clients throughout the entire deal lifecycle on transactions ranging from several million pounds to over £1 billion.
Key responsibilities
- Support and deliver tax due‑diligence projects on buy‑side and sell‑side transactions.
- Advise clients on acquisition structures and the tax implications of proposed deals.
- Prepare and analyse due‑diligence reports, identifying key tax risks and opportunities.
- Review financial and tax data to ensure robust, accurate analysis.
- Attend and lead due‑diligence meetings with target businesses and management teams.
- Present findings and recommendations directly to clients.
- Collaborate with corporate tax, VAT, employment taxes, transfer pricing and international tax specialists.
- Build relationships with lawyers, banks, private‑equity firms and other deal advisers.
- Support the preparation of proposals, budgets and business‑development initiatives.
- Undertake technical tax research and provide commercially focused recommendations.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced transaction environment.
Required profile
- ATT, ACA or CTA qualified, or approaching qualification.
- Strong UK tax experience, ideally gained within practice.
- Corporation tax compliance experience is essential.
- Exposure to VAT, employment taxes, transfer pricing, R&D incentives, stamp taxes or share schemes is advantageous.
- Experience interpreting and applying tax legislation and technical guidance.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Strong analytical ability and comfort managing multiple deadlines.
- Interest in transactions, deals and M&A activity with a desire to develop specialist Transaction Tax expertise.
