Machine Shop Team Leader

About the role

Our client, a leading designer and manufacturer of fluid and motion control products, is seeking an experienced Machine Shop Team Leader to oversee shift operations and drive high performance in a busy manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage shift patterns and ensure the machine shop meets KPIs and on‑time delivery targets.
• Maintain up‑to‑date COSHH and risk assessments and ensure staff understand relevant safety procedures.
• Onboard new colleagues, set objectives, conduct appraisals and identify training needs.
• Handle employee relations, including absence management, disciplinary actions and grievance processes.
• Work closely with Planning to meet weekly production targets and maintain world‑class delivery performance.
• Lead health & safety initiatives, provide first‑aid cover and ensure overall wellbeing of the team.
• Champion Lean tools, continuous improvement projects and root‑cause investigations.
• Lead daily shift briefings, toolbox talks and coordinate team activities to meet daily, weekly and monthly goals.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading a machine shop or similar manufacturing team.
• Strong understanding of health & safety, COSHH and risk assessment processes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage performance, training and employee relations.
• Experience applying Lean methodologies and driving continuous improvement.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills with a hands‑on machining background.
