Maintenance Assistant – Residential Caretaker

About the role

We are seeking a reliable Maintenance Assistant to support residential units across South East London. Working under the Facilities & Estates Manager, you will carry out both planned and reactive maintenance tasks, ensuring health and safety compliance and the smooth operation of the properties.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine repairs and general building maintenance across multiple residential sites.
• Complete scheduled preventative maintenance tasks.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests, prioritising urgent repairs.
• Carry out painting, decorating, door/window and lock repairs, and replace light bulbs and fittings.
• Test and monitor fire alarms and other safety systems in line with procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities.
• Ensure safe use, storage and maintenance of tools and equipment.
• Support and monitor external contractors when required.

Required profile

• Broad knowledge of general property maintenance and repairs.
• Experience in painting and decorating.
• Honest, reliable and trustworthy attitude.
• Physically fit for manual handling, lifting and working at height.
• Willingness to undertake training and professional development.
• Full UK driving licence.
