Maintenance Controller – Fleet Compliance

About the role

We are seeking a Maintenance Controller to ensure Birmingham City Council’s fleet complies with all legal, regulatory and organisational requirements. The role involves conducting audits, maintaining vehicle records and monitoring statutory obligations across the council’s transport operations.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out regular compliance and audit checks on vehicles and drivers.
• Maintain accurate fleet records, including maintenance schedules, licences, inspections and tachograph data.
• Monitor statutory obligations such as Driver CPC, Working Time Directive and other transport legislation.
• Develop, track and report on compliance KPIs, analysing audit outcomes to identify risks and trends.
• Provide guidance on fleet legislation, produce detailed reports for senior management and recommend corrective actions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in compliance, audit or fleet management within transport or related sectors.
• Strong understanding of transport legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to produce comprehensive audit reports with clear recommendations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
• Self‑motivated, highly organised and capable of managing multiple priorities.
