Maintenance Electrician – HMP Full Sutton (Prison)

About the role

We are looking for a qualified Maintenance Electrician to join the team at HMP Full Sutton, a secure prison near York. The role involves maintaining domestic electrical systems, responding to breakdowns and supporting the facility’s safe operation. Both full‑time and part‑time arrangements are possible.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned and preventative maintenance on domestic electrical installations.
• Diagnose faults, replace defective components and restore functionality.
• Respond to reactive breakdowns, following Safe Systems of Work and agreed time‑frames.
• Perform detailed fault‑finding and root‑cause analysis on electrical systems.
• Install electrical systems and components in line with design specifications and BS 7671.
• Inspect and test installations to ensure compliance with IET Wiring Regulations, maintaining accurate records.
• Monitor inventory of electrical spares and consumables, raising requisitions as needed.

Required profile

• Recognised electrical qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 2365 or equivalent).
• 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations certification.
• Proven experience in electrical maintenance within a domestic or secure environment.
• Strong knowledge of health‑and‑safety regulations and Safe Systems of Work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Security clearance (to be obtained).
