Maintenance Engineer – Shift Cover (Wirral)

About the role

Gap Technical is seeking experienced Maintenance Engineers to provide ad‑hoc shift cover across a variety of manufacturing sites in the Wirral area. The role offers flexible, on‑site work that can be fitted around your existing commitments while delivering competitive hourly rates.

Key responsibilities

• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults using technical documentation.
• Fault‑find on 3‑phase electrical systems, drives, PLC I/O, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement long‑term solutions.
• Collaborate with production and operations teams to maximise equipment reliability.
• Ensure all maintenance work is performed safely and to a high standard.

Required profile

• Completed time‑served engineering apprenticeship (preferred).
• Previous experience in manufacturing or production environments.
• Strong fault‑finding abilities across electrical and mechanical systems.
• Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to different sites.
• Experience in FMCG, packaging, food & beverage or chemical sectors is advantageous but not essential.
