Maintenance Fitter

About the role

Tarmac Trading Limited is seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join the Stone Maintenance team at Tunstead Quarry in Buxton. The role involves ensuring the quarry’s mechanical plant remains operational by prioritising and completing both reactive and planned maintenance tasks safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Lead Maintenance Fitter in delivering mechanical maintenance across the quarry to meet production demands.
• Prioritise daily mechanical tasks, resolve reactive faults promptly, and complete planned maintenance activities.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults in heavy machinery, conveyors, and plant systems.
• Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
• Mentor and train less‑experienced Fitters and Apprentices.
• Participate in root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Liaise with external contractors and suppliers as required.

Required profile

• Strong technical knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, preferably within limestone processing.
• Hands‑on experience with PLCs, motors, control panels and instrumentation.
• Proven fault‑finding and preventative maintenance abilities.
• Familiarity with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and MS Office applications.
• Ability to work safely and comply with mechanical safety regulations and company standards.
