Maintenance Services Manager

About the role

The Maintenance Services Manager leads the delivery of building fabric maintenance, water‑hygiene compliance and estate services across the University of the West of Scotland campuses. Reporting to the Operations Manager (Technical), the role combines team leadership, contractor management and operational planning to ensure safe, efficient and customer‑focused services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day building fabric maintenance, planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs.
• Oversee the University’s water‑hygiene programme, ensuring compliance with ACOP L8, HSG274 and related legislation.
• Lead a team of Trade Technicians, a Compliance Technician and specialist contractors.
• Monitor contractor performance, manage maintenance programmes and allocate resources.
• Participate in the Estates Management Standby Rota, providing out‑of‑hours leadership for emergencies and critical incidents.
• Travel between campuses as required to support service delivery.

Required profile

• Degree, HND or equivalent in Facilities Management, Building Maintenance, Construction Management, Building Services or a related discipline, or significant experience with relevant professional training.
• IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
• Proven experience managing maintenance services in a large, complex operational environment.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop trade‑based teams and manage external contractors.
