Maintenance Technician

About the role

We are seeking a Maintenance Technician to join the facilities team of two SEN schools in Smallfield and Effingham. You will be responsible for keeping the sites safe, operational and welcoming for pupils aged 6‑16 with autism spectrum conditions, supporting both building and grounds upkeep.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out reactive maintenance, repairs and refurbishments across both school sites and associated properties.
• Maintain grounds to a high standard, including landscaping and outdoor safety.
• Perform weekly health and safety tasks such as fire alarm testing and legionella management.
• Record all checks in the Safety Culture system and ensure they are available for inspection.
• Support the Premises and Compliance Manager with preventative maintenance planning and service recording.
• Assist with site expansion projects and integration of new buildings.

Required profile

• Flexibility and sensitivity to the needs of pupils with complex requirements.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation, including fire safety, legionella, asbestos, COSHH and safeguarding.
• Competence in basic building repairs and grounds maintenance, with the ability to delegate work.
• Good computer literacy for recording maintenance activities.

What we offer

• Salary £29,120‑£31,512 per year, dependent on experience.
