Major Projects Planning Officer – London

About the role

The Development Management team of a local authority is seeking an experienced Major Projects Officer to lead the borough's most complex planning applications. This six‑month contract offers the chance to manage high‑profile cases from pre‑application through to post‑decision matters.

Key responsibilities

• Case manage major planning applications from validation to recommendation, including GLA Stage 1 & 2 processes.
• Lead delivery of commitments under bespoke Planning Performance Agreements.
• Coordinate complex pre‑application submissions and run internal and external project meetings.
• Prepare professional reports, recommendations for management and Planning Committee, and appeal statements.
• Act as the Council's lead witness at Hearings and Public Inquiries.
• Handle post‑decision tasks such as discharge of conditions, resubmissions and complaints.
• Contribute to service improvement and stay up‑to‑date with planning legislation and case law.

Required profile

• Degree or Masters in Town & Country Planning or related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience as a Development Control Planning Officer, focusing on major applications.
• Sound knowledge of planning legislation, case law and the role of elected members.
• Full UK driving licence for site visits.
