Management Accountant

About the role

We are looking for a Management Accountant to join our finance team in Billingham. You will be responsible for delivering accurate monthly accounts, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring robust financial controls across multiple entities.

Key responsibilities

• Take full ownership of allocated company accounts from trial balance through to monthly management accounts.
• Assist the finance team in preparing monthly management accounts and reporting packs.
• Produce variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior periods.
• Support the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
• Process transactions, maintain control accounts and reconcile sales, purchase, bank and credit‑card ledgers.
• Prepare pre‑payments, accruals, month‑end journals, payroll journals and employee expense claims.
• Prepare cash‑flow forecasts and review balance‑sheet reconciliations each month.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns and reconcile inter‑company transactions.
• Support statutory accounts preparation and external audit activities.
• Develop and improve financial controls and reporting processes.
• Liaise with other departments to resolve queries and provide cover for the wider finance team.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query).
• AAT Level 4 (or part‑qualified ACCA/CIMA, or qualified by experience).
• Experience with Sage 200 or a similar ERP/accounting system.
• Strong knowledge of management accounting, VAT and month‑end reporting.
