Managing Director – Financial Institutions Credit

About the role

We are seeking a Managing Director to lead Financial Institutions Credit for a leading UK bank. This senior, strategic position sits on the bank’s risk leadership team and carries delegated authority over a complex, high‑profile portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Act as senior sanctioner for new transactions, renewals, amendments and complex restructurings across all FI sectors.
• Provide independent judgement and constructive challenge to support sustainable growth.
• Lead credit discussions covering lending, structured finance, derivatives and traded products.
• Support portfolio strategy, risk appetite, thematic reviews and emerging risk assessments.
• Drive consistency in underwriting standards and contribute to the evolution of the FI credit operating model.
• Identify opportunities to simplify processes, enhance monitoring through automation and digitisation, and develop forward‑looking credit frameworks.
• Represent FI Credit in senior governance forums, engage with regulators, internal audit and control functions.
• Coach and mentor senior credit professionals, fostering a culture of constructive challenge, collaboration and continuous learning.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in credit risk leadership within financial institutions.
• Proven ability to make independent, high‑impact decisions on complex credit matters.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with senior‑level internal and external partners.
• Demonstrated track record of developing and executing portfolio strategy.
