Manual Machinist – Aerospace Manufacturing

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to join a leading aerospace manufacturer in Portsmouth. You will work in a high‑performing, precision‑engineering environment, producing components to exacting standards on a contract basis until July 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual machine tools such as jig bores, lathes and mills.
• Interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
• Manufacture and rework components to tight tolerances and surface finishes.
• Perform in‑process inspections using micrometres, verniers, bore gauges, height gauges and DTI equipment.
• Carry out routine machine maintenance and cleaning.
• Complete production and quality documentation accurately.
• Collaborate with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams to ensure compliance with design intent and customer requirements.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Manual Machinist or Toolmaker in precision engineering or aerospace.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Familiarity with AS9100 standards is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and a quality‑focused mindset.
• Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering is advantageous.
