Master Technician / Workshop Controller

About the role

We are looking for a Master Technician / Workshop Controller to lead the maintenance of a 70‑vehicle fleet in Swanmore. The role combines hands‑on technical work with workshop management to ensure high vehicle availability and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily workshop operations, plan and schedule servicing, repairs, inspections and MOT preparation.
• Allocate work to technicians, monitor progress and ensure safety and manufacturer standards.
• Diagnose and rectify complex mechanical, electrical and diagnostic faults across a mixed fleet.
• Provide technical support, conduct final quality‑control inspections and stay current with vehicle technology.
• Maintain accurate compliance records, oversee MOT scheduling and manage defect resolution.
• Lead, mentor and develop workshop staff, conduct performance reviews and support recruitment.
• Control workshop expenditure, parts inventory and negotiate with suppliers to achieve cost savings.

Required profile

• Qualified Master Technician or Senior Technician with proven experience in mixed‑fleet maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical vehicle systems.
• Ability to lead a team and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
• Understanding of health & safety legislation and fleet compliance requirements.
• Experience managing budgets and controlling workshop costs.
