Materials & Process Development Engineer

About the role

The Materials & Process Development Engineer will shape and deliver the company’s advanced materials and Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) capability. This hands‑on, strategically important position sits at the intersection of R&D, process industrialisation and compliance, supporting product innovation, quality assurance and manufacturing readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, optimise and qualify WAAM processes for a range of structural alloys, driving repeatability, build quality and throughput.
• Lead cross‑functional projects to introduce new materials into the additive manufacturing portfolio, managing internal trials and external validation.
• Establish and maintain in‑house materials characterisation and quality‑control infrastructure, including sample preparation, metallography and optical microscopy.
• Implement and uphold ISO 9001‑aligned governance, ensuring documentation, traceability and technical reporting meet regulated‑application standards.
• Mentor engineers and technicians on WAAM techniques, metallurgical analysis and equipment use.
• Represent the company at technical forums, conferences and collaborative R&D initiatives.

Required profile

• Degree (MSc or higher, PhD preferred) in Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in materials science, manufacturing engineering or a related field.
• Proven track record in additive manufacturing process development, particularly WAAM or Directed Energy Deposition (DED).
• Strong grounding in welding metallurgy and materials characterisation.
