Maths and English Tutor for Year 8 Student

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a compassionate tutor to work with a Year 8 student who has been out of school for three weeks and needs support re‑engaging with learning. The role focuses on closing gaps in foundational English and Maths while building a trusting relationship.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct a baseline assessment to identify the student’s current level.
• Plan and deliver regular one‑to‑one tuition sessions (approximately 3 hours per week).
• Use trauma‑informed and attachment‑aware strategies to encourage participation.
• Provide gradual exposure to classroom and social settings with appropriate adult support.
• Monitor progress and adjust teaching approaches as needed.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of Key Stage 3 English and Maths curricula.
• Experience supporting autistic learners and students with social anxiety.
• Ability to build a consistent, trusting relationship with the student.
• Preferably local to Gillingham to facilitate longer‑term support.
