Mealtime Assistant – 1:1 SEN Support

About the role

Reed Education is looking for a caring Mealtime Assistant to provide one‑to‑one support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs (SEN) during the lunch period at a primary school in Plymouth. This part‑time, temporary role offers the chance to make a positive impact on a child’s daily school experience.

Key responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to the SEN pupil throughout lunchtime and playtime.
• Encourage positive social interaction and help the pupil engage with peers.
• Assist with transitions between lunch activities, ensuring safety and smooth flow.
• Promote independence while monitoring wellbeing and safeguarding.
• Collaborate with school staff to follow agreed support strategies.
• Manage any behavioural, emotional, or sensory needs calmly and supportively.

Required profile

• Experience working with children, particularly those with SEN (essential).
• Patient, nurturing, reliable and able to build positive relationships.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Genuine passion for supporting children’s development and wellbeing.

Required skills

• Ability to follow individualized support plans.
• Basic understanding of safeguarding and child safety procedures.
• Awareness of sensory and behavioural strategies for SEN pupils.
