Mechanical Assembler / Fitter – Engineering Workshop

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Assembler/Fitter to join our engineering workshop in Croydon. You will work on a variety of rotating equipment – from rail transmissions and cooling systems to marine gearboxes – ensuring they are restored to peak performance for our customers across the rail, marine, power and oil & gas sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Strip down, inspect, survey, re‑assemble and test mechanical systems such as gearboxes, pumps, couplers, transmissions and cooling units.
• Interpret engineering drawings to identify components and understand system functions.
• Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers) to verify tolerances.
• Apply correct assembly techniques, including torque tightening and shrink‑fit procedures.
• Maintain health & safety standards, workshop housekeeping and compliance with industry regulations.
• Produce clear technical documentation for each project.
• Perform basic maintenance on equipment within your work cell.
• Contribute ideas for continuous improvement and support a collaborative team culture.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in mechanical fitting, preferably with rotating equipment.
• Apprentice‑trained or holding a relevant engineering qualification.
• Good knowledge of Risk Assessments, COSHH and health & safety systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and high quality standards.
