Mechanical Cost Engineer – Hybrid (London)

About the role

This permanent, hybrid position sits within NG Bailey’s Estimating team and focuses on delivering accurate, competitive mechanical (MEP) cost estimates for projects across London and the South. You will work across a variety of sectors, including infrastructure, commercial, healthcare and energy, supporting both tendering and work‑winning activities.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed mechanical (MEP) cost estimates and take‑offs for a wide range of projects.
• Support tendering and work‑winning activities by contributing cost narratives and value‑engineering options.
• Review drawings, specifications and tender documents to ensure accuracy.
• Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
• Identify risks, opportunities and value‑engineering options.
• Collaborate with design, commercial and delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Maintain cost databases and benchmarking data.
• Assist with pre‑construction and project handover phases.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical (MEP) estimating.
• Background across sectors such as infrastructure, commercial, healthcare or energy.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems and services.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
• Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
