Mechanical Design Engineer – 3D CAD (SolidWorks) – £45‑55k

About the role

We are seeking experienced Mechanical Design Engineers to join a leading marine engineering organisation in Birmingham. The permanent role offers £45,000‑£55,000 per year and involves working on diverse projects across the marine sector.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
• Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Work on engineering projects across the marine sector and related industries.
• Present technical designs and solutions to customers.
• Liaise with external suppliers, metallurgists and R&D teams.
• Ensure designs meet performance, quality and manufacturability requirements.
• Support design reviews, modifications and continuous improvement activities.
• Maintain accurate engineering documentation in line with company standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer.
• Strong 3D CAD modelling experience, preferably SolidWorks.
• Solid understanding of maths, physics and engineering principles.
• Confident in customer‑facing situations and technical presentations.
• Experience liaising with suppliers and external stakeholders.
• Self‑motivated with a proactive approach to learning.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (or other 3D CAD software).
