Mechanical Design Engineer – Classic Vehicle Restoration

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a heritage‑focused automotive company in Waterlooville. The role blends traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering to restore and develop classic vehicle components.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and development of mechanical components and assemblies for historic and classic vehicles.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Reverse engineer obsolete parts using physical measurements, 3D scanning and CAD modelling.
• Develop mechanical systems such as suspension, steering, braking and drivetrain components.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
• Review and approve engineering drawings and design releases.
• Manage multiple projects from concept through manufacturing and testing.
• Collaborate with fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.

Required profile

• Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
• Proficiency in Solidworks or similar CAD software (Inventor, Catia, Solid Edge).
• Experience with gear design, reverse engineering and vehicle mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of automotive manufacturing and production processes.
• Proven leadership skills and ability to manage design teams.
• Familiarity with PLM systems and engineering standards.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects.
