Mechanical Design Engineer – Commercial Projects Lead

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with a commercial background to lead a team of designers on fire and security system projects for blue‑chip clients across the UK. Based in Reading, you will work closely with the Project Director and external clients to deliver high‑quality designs for data centres, hospitals, schools and other commercial facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a design team of 6‑8 engineers on commercial projects.
• Perform drawing checks, approve designs and ensure compliance with standards.
• Coordinate design reviews and meetings with directors, clients and project stakeholders.
• Liaise across the business to support project delivery and maintain client relationships.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical design within a commercial environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a design team and oversee multiple projects.
• Strong communication skills for interfacing with clients and senior management.
• Full UK driver’s licence.
