Mechanical Design Engineer – Exeter

About the role

Magnus Search is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing international team in Exeter. You will work on innovative products from concept through to manufacture, collaborating with cross‑functional teams in a forward‑thinking environment.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the Technical Engineering Manager and Design & Development team to turn concepts into production‑ready designs.
• Create detailed engineering drawings for manufacturing.
• Optimise existing designs to reduce cost, improve efficiency and maintain quality.
• Advise on manufacturing methods, both in‑house and external.
• Perform tolerance stack‑up and DFMEA analyses to ensure functionality and manufacturability.
• Coordinate with Development, Production Engineering and Purchasing to guarantee design for manufacture.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven product development experience from prototype to mass production.
• Strong knowledge of sheet‑metal processes such as folding and welding.
• Experience with Design for Manufacture (DFM) and DFMEA.
• Ability to produce 2D drawings to GD&T standards.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 environments.

Required skills

• Solid Edge or comparable CAD software.
• GD&T and tolerance analysis.
• DFMEA.
• Sheet‑metal manufacturing techniques (folding, welding).
