Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing engineering business in Bolton. You will be responsible for designing, developing and delivering bespoke machinery and automation equipment from concept through to manufacture, testing and installation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop bespoke machinery, conveyors, handling systems and food/beverage packaging equipment.
• Create 3D models, assemblies and technical drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
• Produce robust, cost‑effective and manufacturable designs, working with sheet metal and stainless steel fabrication.
• Support R&D, prototyping, testing and new machine development.
• Collaborate with production, controls, project management and service teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing and design challenges and assist with build, testing, installation and commissioning.
• Contribute ideas to improve machine performance, efficiency and build quality.
• Manage projects from concept through to production.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years’ experience in machinery manufacturing, automation or a related engineering environment.
• Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer.
• Strong mechanical engineering and problem‑solving abilities.
• Hands‑on engineering mindset with the ability to work independently.
• Desire for long‑term career progression within a growing business.

Required skills

• Autodesk Inventor (essential).
• Autodesk Vault (desirable).
• Sheet metal and stainless steel fabrication knowledge.
• 3D modelling and technical drawing creation.
• Design of automation‑focused projects.
