Mechanical Design Engineer – Part‑Time (3 days/week)

About the role

We are recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer on a permanent, part‑time basis for a reputable client in Chippenham, Wiltshire. The role offers a 3‑day week (24 hours) with a pro‑rata salary of £38,000‑£40,000 per year.

Key responsibilities

• Produce 3D design concepts, planning drawings and detailed engineering drawings to BS8888 standards.
• Create Bills of Materials, Installation, Operating and Maintenance manuals.
• Issue and control drawings in line with company procedures and maintain drawing office housekeeping.
• Transfer legacy drawings into the updated CAD PDM system and manage parts identification.
• Support specification and testing of electrical items fitted to valves and third‑party products.
• Provide design support across manufacturing, R&D projects and sales/marketing activities.
• Ensure compliance with ATEX requirements and health‑and‑safety standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical design engineering (essential).
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and attention to detail.
• Capability to manage own workload and meet targets.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD systems such as Autodesk Inventor or equivalent.
• Knowledge of BS8888 design standards.
• Experience using a CAD PDM system and supply‑chain management tools for BOM creation.
• Understanding of basic electrical concepts.
