Mechanical Design Engineer – Product Development

About the role

Planet Recruitment is partnering with an innovative engineering manufacturer in West Oxfordshire to hire a Mechanical Design Engineer. You will work on new product development and continuous improvement of existing products, contributing to research and development projects and helping to shorten development timescales.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop new mechanical products and improve existing designs.
• Build and test prototypes throughout the development process.
• Record and analyse test results, providing recommendations and next steps.
• Produce and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Collaborate with engineers and other departments to deliver projects on time.
• Support R&D activities from concept through to production.
• Contribute ideas to improve product performance, manufacturability and efficiency.
• Undertake any other reasonable engineering duties as required.

Required profile

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Previous experience in a design or product development environment.
• Experience working on research and development projects (desirable).
• Strong organisational, project management and communication skills.
• Proactive, able to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience with prototype assembly and product testing.
• Knowledge of Bills of Materials (BOM) creation and maintenance.
