Mechanical Design Engineer / Project Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer / Project Engineer to join a long‑established engineering business that designs bespoke air‑filtration and product‑collection systems for food, pharmaceutical, mineral and chemical sectors. The role will involve managing projects from sales hand‑over through to delivery, while developing your design skills in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.

Key responsibilities

• Manage contracts from sales hand‑over through to delivery or installation.
• Assist with, and eventually lead, site surveys and measurements.
• Produce plant layouts, general assemblies, and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD LT (2D) and SolidWorks (3D).
• Purchase and negotiate with approved suppliers.
• Work within an ISO9001 quality system.
• Update and maintain job costing spreadsheets.
• Occasionally support installation and commissioning, including short periods away from home.
• Conduct progress and final inspections at supplier sites.
• Prepare data dossiers and O&M manuals.
• Check and approve supplier invoices.

Required profile

• Minimum HND in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; degree preferred.
• At least 3 years’ draughting experience using AutoCAD 2D and SolidWorks 3D.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel).
• Ability to interpret and produce plant layout and fabrication drawings for structural steelwork, sheet metal and heavy plate.
• Full, clean driving licence.
• Reliable commute to the Ellesmere Port office.
