Mechanical Engineer – Facilities Management

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Facilities Management team of Cambridgeshire County Council. Based at New Shire Hall, you will work across a range of council sites, delivering both planned and reactive maintenance to keep our buildings safe, compliant and operational.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance, including Legionella compliance, HVAC systems, pumps, compressors and air handling units (AHUs).
• Respond to reactive maintenance requests, diagnose faults and repair mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Record all maintenance activities accurately in the CAFM system using mobile technology.
• Liaise with the help‑desk and contract management team, and induct subcontractors to ensure health and safety compliance.
• Participate in an out‑of‑hours on‑call rota and conduct weekly site inspections.

Required profile

• Full driving licence and relevant qualifications such as City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2/3.
• Experience with renewables, heat pumps, air‑conditioning, AHUs and general mechanical maintenance in commercial properties.
• Confidence using mobile technology to update work systems and communicate with teams and clients.
• Physical capability to perform the role and a strong commitment to health and safety standards.
