Mechanical Engineer – Healthcare Estates

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Estates and Facilities team of a large healthcare organisation in East Kent. The role involves maintaining critical mechanical plant across static sites in Canterbury, Margate and Ashford, ensuring services remain safe, efficient and operational.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on a variety of mechanical equipment.
• Diagnose and rectify faults in HVAC systems, air handling units, boilers, pumps and water distribution networks.
• Support statutory compliance activities and ensure work meets relevant regulations and standards.
• Assist with minor installations, refurbishments and improvement projects.
• Collaborate with Estates Managers and engineering teams to maintain service continuity.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimise disruption to critical healthcare services.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete required documentation.

Required profile

• Qualified in Mechanical Engineering (City & Guilds, NVQ, BTEC or equivalent).
• Proven experience maintaining mechanical plant in a large or complex environment such as healthcare, education or public sector estates.
• Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic abilities.
• Good understanding of health and safety legislation and maintenance best practice.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
