Mechanical Engineer – Hybrid role at Portsmouth Naval Base

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to deliver key Warship Technical Authority (WTA) service elements across a range of naval platform systems. The role is based at Portsmouth Naval Base and works in a hybrid pattern, offering flexible working arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering support for diverse platform systems, equipment and critical marine services.
• Deliver engineering input to multiple projects, including CSM platforms and international naval programmes.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to clarify and manage platform system requirements.
• Maintain design integrity across varied engineering contexts, classes and programme deployments.
• Support investigations, impact assessments and integration analyses to enable data‑driven technical decisions.
• Ensure safe and efficient implementation of design changes while maintaining configuration control and system integration.

Required profile

• Broad knowledge of complex platform systems in UK and international markets.
• Good understanding of applicable industry standards and ability to work within CSM, LCM and other governance frameworks.
• Ability to apply mechanical engineering knowledge quickly and confidently across a wide range of platforms.
