Mechanical Engineer – Plant Reliability & Asset Integrity

About the role

Our client, a complex manufacturing business undergoing major upgrades, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support plant reliability and asset integrity. The newly created position will work closely with operations and maintenance teams across a busy production environment in Durham.

Key responsibilities

• Support asset integrity and lifecycle management activities.
• Specify and deliver plant repairs, modifications and equipment replacements.
• Provide higher‑level technical expertise to the site‑based maintenance team.
• Contribute to complex asset repairs and mechanical integrity programmes.
• Assist with shutdown planning and execution.
• Drive reliability improvements across plant assets.
• Manage inspection and statutory compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with inspection bodies, insurers, specialist engineering partners, operations, safety and the wider engineering team.
• Deliver practical engineering solutions that enable safe and efficient operations.

Required profile

• Degree‑qualified Mechanical Engineer or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong plant‑based engineering background in a process, heavy manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Understanding of mechanical integrity and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Pragmatic problem‑solver who enjoys on‑site work with operational teams.
• Ability to balance engineering discipline with fast‑paced, customer‑focused production demands.
