Mechanical Engineer - Test Facilities Engineering

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join the Test Facilities Engineering team at our Europe Research & Development Centre in Peterborough. The role involves designing, upgrading and maintaining engine, powertrain and electric vehicle test cells within a world‑class R&D facility.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate, select and deploy cutting‑edge powertrain test cell technologies across the facility.
• Design and develop robust mechanical systems, safety infrastructure and supporting services for the test cell environment.
• Execute design modifications to existing plant machinery, custom test rigs and specialised laboratory equipment.
• Lead facility upgrade projects from concept to completion, coordinating multi‑functional teams and third‑party vendors.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, service and safety system anomalies to maximise uptime.
• Prepare and distribute technical reports and process documentation summarising findings and recommendations.

Required profile

• Proven experience working in an engine, powertrain or electric‑vehicle test cell environment, or with comparable heavy mechanical and automated safety systems.
• An engineering or technical degree, or equivalent depth of qualification gained through extensive industrial experience.
• Strong analytical and communication abilities, with a track record of extracting concise insights from complex data.
• Effective team‑working skills to collaborate with design engineers, facilities management and hands‑on technicians.
