Mechanical Engineering Instructor – Fitter and Turner

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Instructor specialising in fitting and turning to join a leading maritime training provider in Portsmouth. You will deliver both theory and hands‑on workshop sessions to Service and Civilian trainees, supporting the Royal Navy engineering programme.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver workshop theory and practical instruction to trainees to Foundation Degree/Defence standards.
• Prepare course documentation, assess tests and examinations, and develop new course material.
• Maintain and repair training equipment and training aids.
• Provide subject‑matter expertise on all delivered courses.
• Liaise with external authorities, ships, establishments and military units for technical support.
• Collaborate within the marine project team to ensure successful training delivery.

Required profile

• Recognised apprenticeship or relevant training in fitting and turning processes.
• Minimum five years post‑apprenticeship experience in a relevant workshop environment.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings in accordance with BS8888.
• Evidence of relevant ability, experience and qualifications.
• Desirable: previous training or instructional experience; Defence instructional techniques will be provided.
