Mechanical Field Service Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Mechanical Field Service Engineer to join our team at Barrow‑in‑Furness. You will work in a fast‑paced maintenance environment supporting critical wastewater assets, ensuring safety, efficiency and regulatory compliance while developing a broader multi‑skilled engineering profile.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver planned and reactive mechanical maintenance on wastewater assets.
• Diagnose faults, carry out repairs and return equipment safely to service.
• Improve asset reliability through proactive maintenance and root‑cause analysis.
• Record performance, defects and repair data in corporate systems.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and capital/operational projects.
• Manage maintenance activities within agreed budgets where applicable.
• Participate in on‑call standby rota and work in confined spaces as required.

Required profile

• Full UK driving licence (company vehicle provided).
• Time‑served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a mechanical discipline.
• Relevant experience in mechanical maintenance, engineering or industrial environments.
• Strong fault‑finding, planning and organisational abilities.
• Willingness to develop additional skills and adopt a multi‑skilled maintenance approach.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with pumps, gearboxes, valves and rotating machinery.
• Mechanical fault diagnosis and repair.
• Root‑cause analysis techniques.
• Use of maintenance management or corporate asset systems.
