Mechanical Fitter

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join our rolling‑stock depot in Crewe. The role involves the mechanical overhaul and repair of rail bogies and related components, ensuring safe and reliable train operation.

Key responsibilities

• Perform bogie overhaul, damage repair and engineering.
• Overhaul, repair and analyse wheel sets.
• Repair and clean bogie chassis and gearboxes.
• Exchange wheels on wheel sets and mount bearings, axles and wheels.
• Oversee components and sub‑assembly repair and re‑engineering.
• Produce spare parts as required.

Required profile

• Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Extensive mechanical engineering knowledge, preferably with modern rolling‑stock systems.
• Experience in train depot operations is desirable.
• Minimum NVQ Level 2 in a mechanical discipline or equivalent experience.

What we offer

• Hourly rate £16.87 PAYE or £21.83 Umbrella.
• Full‑time schedule, Monday‑Friday 8:00‑16:30 with flexibility.
• 37 hours per week, ongoing contract.
• Immediate start date.
