Mechanical Fitter – Rolling Stock Bogie Overhaul

About the role

The Mechanical Fitter will join a leading rolling‑stock manufacturer at its Crewe depot, carrying out mechanical overhauls on rail bogies and related components. You will work on a full‑time schedule, Monday to Friday, with flexibility for shift work.

Key responsibilities

• Bogie overhaul, damage repair and engineering
• Wheel‑set overhaul, repair and analysis
• Chassis repair, cleaning and re‑conditioning
• Gearbox engineering and repair
• Wheel exchange and bearing, axle and wheel mounting
• Overhaul, repair and analysis of components and sub‑assemblies
• Re‑engineering and production of spare parts for rolling stock

Required profile

• Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Extensive mechanical engineering knowledge, preferably with modern rolling‑stock systems
• Experience in train depot operations is desirable
• Minimum NVQ Level 2 in a mechanical discipline

• Hourly rate £18.82 PAYE or £24.40 Umbrella
