Mechanical Maintenance Engineer – Shift (4 on/4 off)

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a global manufacturer of specialty paper alternatives on a 4‑on/4‑off shift pattern. The role involves both planned and reactive maintenance of production machinery to minimise downtime and maximise performance.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out plant checks and respond to production line breakdowns.
• Perform planned maintenance on compressors, water‑treatment plant, cooling equipment and other plant assets.
• Assist in the design and implementation of machinery modifications, especially on extrusion equipment.
• Own the maintenance of key plant systems and support continuous improvement projects.

Required profile

• Time‑served or formally qualified in Mechanical Engineering (NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC/HND or equivalent).
• Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and basic electrical fault‑finding.
• Experience with PLC/HMI troubleshooting (Allen Bradley, Siemens S7) is beneficial.
• Strong health & safety awareness and ability to work effectively within a team.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering and machining/turning for repairs.
• Fault‑finding and fixing of mechanical issues.
• Welding (MIG, TIG, Arc, Gas).
• Hydraulics and pneumatics systems.
• Basic electrical fault‑finding.
• PLC and HMI troubleshooting (Allen Bradley, Siemens S7).
