Mechanical Technician

About the role

As a Mechanical Technician at Veolia you will support the operation of a biomass power station in Chilton, delivering reliable mechanical performance while contributing to a sustainable future. You will work 40 hours per week on‑site, applying your expertise to a range of equipment and ensuring safe, efficient operation.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and document routine maintenance on conveyors, pumps, valves, compressors, hydraulic systems and other mechanical plant.
• Diagnose faults, conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Inspect, repair and maintain mechanical systems, updating records in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Develop and propose modifications or improvements to plant equipment.
• Liaise with external contractors to ensure compliance with company procedures.
• Manage mechanical spares and consumables on site.

Required profile

• Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or HNC (or equivalent) in Engineering – desirable.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance techniques for plant equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
• Capable of working independently or as part of a team.

Required skills

• Conveyor, pump, valve and compressor maintenance.
• Hydraulic system servicing.
• Use of Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Root‑cause analysis and problem‑solving.
• Interpretation of mechanical drawings.
