Mechanical Technician – University of Bristol

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Technician to join a brand‑new team supporting a flagship building at the University of Bristol. The role is days‑only with occasional weekend duties, offering the chance to help shape the maintenance service from the ground up.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical building services plant and systems in line with SFG20 standards.
• Respond to reactive faults and complete minor works, meeting contractual SLAs and KPIs.
• Maintain and service pipework, pumps, boilers, cooling towers and water‑treatment systems.
• Record job details, compliance documentation and updates in the client’s CAFM system.
• Build strong relationships with University staff and on‑site FM partners, delivering excellent customer service.
• Work safely at all times, following risk assessments, method statements and NG Bailey health‑and‑safety procedures.

Required profile

• Hands‑on, reliable technician with solid mechanical or M&E experience.
• Proactive attitude and ability to work both independently and as part of a growing team.
• Client‑facing with good communication and a professional manner.

Required skills

• Experience with mechanical plant – pipework, pumps, boilers, cooling towers.
• Knowledge of water‑treatment systems and HVAC/M&E basics.
• Familiarity with SFG20 maintenance standards.
• Understanding of Building Management Systems (BMS) – a plus.
• Use of Computer‑Aided Facility Management (CAFM) software for record‑keeping.
