Medical Advisor – Troubles Permanent Disablement Payment Scheme

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Medical Advisor to support the Troubles Permanent Disablement Payment Scheme (TPDPS) administered by the Department of Justice. The role is based within Capita’s TPDPS team and involves applying medical expertise to assess and audit disability claims arising from the Troubles‑related incidents.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of the TPDPS Assessment Guide and Clinical Governance guidance.
• Conduct face‑to‑face or virtual assessments, reviewing evidence to determine permanence of conditions and percentage disablement.
• Quality‑check a set volume of clinical assessment reports each week against audit criteria defined by Clinical Governance and the Victims’ Payment Board.
• Provide constructive, impartial feedback to clinical assessors, auditors and support staff, both in writing and in person.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings across TPDPS teams and support escalation of complex case queries.
• Ensure personal CPD, mandatory online training, and professional registration are maintained.

Required profile

• Qualified medical doctor with registration to practice.
• Experience in clinical assessment, auditing or related medical advisory roles.
• Ability to interpret clinical evidence and apply disability assessment guidelines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for feedback and reporting.
• Willingness to undergo government baseline personnel security vetting and a Counter Terrorist Check.
