Medical Laboratory Assistant – Histology & Digital Pathology

About the role
The Medical Laboratory Assistant is the operational backbone of the Diagnexia Oxford laboratory, working across histopathology and digital pathology functions. You will follow a daily rota, develop technical competency through a structured module framework, and support the team in delivering high‑quality diagnostic services.
Key responsibilities
- Receive, log, label and verify specimens, slides and blocks, ensuring chain of custody and formalin adequacy.
- Enter data and operate the LIMS and tracking system for specimen registration and verification.
- Load/unload tissue processors, monitor reagent levels and cycle completion.
- Perform routine H&E staining, assess slide quality and release approved slides.
- Prepare specimens, assist with dissection, embedding and microtomy under supervision.
- Operate slide scanners, manage batch queues and report scan failures.
- Log and communicate issues via Freshdesk, ClickUp and internal chat, raising quality concerns immediately.
Required profile
- Ability to work accurately in a regulated, time‑sensitive environment.
- Willingness to cover all histopathology lab functions as directed.
- Clear verbal and written communication, with confidence to raise concerns.
- Commitment to follow SOPs and escalate issues rather than improvise.
Required skills
- Proficiency with LIMS and specimen tracking systems.
- Experience with H&E staining, embedding and microtomy.
- Operation of tissue processors and digital slide scanners.
- Use of Freshdesk, ClickUp, MS Office or Google Sheets for data entry and reporting.
- Understanding of GDPR and CQC regulations for patient data handling.
