Member of Technical Staff – Evolutionary Optimisation

About the role

Callosum is building a system that automatically searches and optimises AI programs across heterogeneous hardware. As a Member of Technical Staff you will own the evolution and optimisation loop that generates, evaluates and improves programs using LLM‑guided search.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the core program evolution loop, improving candidate generation, evaluation, selection and long‑run optimisation.
• Design search strategies that balance exploration, exploitation, diversity and sample efficiency in large, irregular optimisation spaces.
• Build continuous benchmarks to measure optimiser performance across internal workloads and standalone problems.
• Turn the system into reliable internal infrastructure that can be reused to optimise new verifiable domains.

Required profile

• Strong foundations in optimisation and search, familiar with evolutionary, stochastic, combinatorial or other non‑gradient methods.
• Ability to reason about search dynamics – exploration vs exploitation, diversity, pruning and objective design.
• Strong engineering instincts, with experience turning experimental prototypes into reusable, measurable software.
• Demonstrated tendency to draw from optimisation, algorithms and machine‑learning techniques rather than relying solely on LLMs.
