About the role
We are seeking a compassionate Mental Health Assistant / SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Abingdon. This full‑time position offers hands‑on experience supporting children with social, emotional, behavioural and mental health challenges.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils throughout the school day.
- Assist teachers in delivering inclusive lessons tailored to individual needs.
- Implement behaviour support strategies and individual education plans.
- Help pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence and social skills.
- Support students during transitions, break times and therapeutic interventions.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, counsellors, educational psychologists and parents.
- Monitor progress and share feedback with the support team.
Required profile
- Recent graduate in Psychology, Counselling, Criminology or a related field.
- Genuine interest in working with children with additional needs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships.
- Commitment to professional development in mental health and SEN education.
