Mental Health Assistant & SEN Teaching Assistant

About the role
We are looking for a Mental Health Assistant and SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with social and emotional mental health needs in a mainstream primary school in Havering, London. The role starts in September 2026 and offers the chance to work alongside qualified therapists, counsellors and psychologists on‑site.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 with emotional and behavioural challenges.
- Assist in implementing social‑emotional learning activities and wellbeing plans.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists and psychologists to monitor and support pupils’ progress.
- Shadow therapeutic sessions and participate in mentorship programmes.
- Maintain accurate records of interventions and observations.
Required profile
- Relevant qualification such as a degree in Psychology, Counselling, Criminology, Education or equivalent.
- Level 3 qualifications or higher; a degree is preferred.
- Experience working with children with special educational needs or mental health challenges, either professionally or personally.
- Enthusiastic, open‑minded and able to work in a school environment.
Required skills
What we offer
- Daily rate of £92‑£120 (visible in posting).
- Full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 8:30 am‑4:00 pm.
