Mental Health Assistant (Specialist School)

About the role
Join a well‑respected specialist school in Maidenhead that supports children with complex learning disabilities. As a Mental Health Assistant you will work directly with pupils who have autism, sensory processing difficulties and communication challenges, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop essential life skills.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils throughout the school day.
- Assist in delivering personalised learning and behaviour plans.
- Promote emotional wellbeing, independence and positive social interaction.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists and support staff to create a safe, structured environment.
- Monitor and record pupil progress and any behavioural observations.
Required profile
- Background in Psychology, Counselling, Education or relevant experience working with children.
- Patience, resilience and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners.
- Ability to work Monday‑Friday, 8:30 am‑3:30 pm.
- Willingness to start as soon as possible.
Required skills
- Understanding of autism spectrum disorders and sensory processing issues.
- Experience with behaviour management techniques.
- Effective communication and active listening.
