Mental Health Support Assistant – Wantage (Full‑time)

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Mental Health Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Wantage. The role involves working directly with children and young people who experience social, emotional and mental health challenges, helping them feel safe and supported while they learn.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day emotional and mental health support to students with anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD and related conditions.
• Assist students in settling into school routines and minimise triggering situations.
• Create a calm, positive environment that encourages learning and personal growth.
• Shadow and collaborate with qualified mental‑health professionals to develop practical skills.

Required profile

• Experience working with vulnerable children or young people is desirable.
• Any background in education, psychology, therapy or related fields is advantageous; recent graduates are welcome.
• Enthusiasm for supporting mental health and a genuine interest in child development.

Required skills

• Strong interpersonal communication.
• Ability to recognise and respond to mental‑health cues.
• Basic understanding of common mental‑health conditions affecting children.
